Principle's Office

So today is the 10th day of school. And today, I got a message from Mr. Wahler, school principal, that Evan had pushed a kid into the water fountain and the kid split his lip open and they had to take him to urgent care. I feel really bad that my child did that. We had a good long talk and he has lost all privileges for an undetermined lenght of time. My girls have never in their long lives been to the principal's office. Evan manages to get there in 10 short days of his elementary school career. At dinner, Evan said the prayer. After blessing the food, he said "And please help me to be a good boy tomorrow and not a bad boy. 'Cause sometimes I'm bad. Amen."

Yes, Amen in deed. I hope the Lord helps him to be a good boy too.

..........

On another note, I got a road bike today. A pretty sweet one. I'm pretty excited. I took it for a short ride today but my goal is Boulder and back, about a 40 mile ride. I'd like to do it a few times a week. Maybe I should try it once before I say that.

Sunday musings

I finally have all the kids to bed. Whew. Evan was like a tazmanian devil today. I don't know what it is about Sundays but he has way too much energy. When we first got to church he started climbing under the pews, harrasing his sisters, and generally causing a scene. And that was before the meeting even started. After a whole day of him being very loud and roudy, I told him at 6:30 it was bedtime. I tried to lay down with him and for about an hour and a half we played the game of this:

him: I'm not tired

me: well it's time for bed

him: how come the girls arent' in bed?

me: because they're behaving

him: I'll behave. See watch. I'm being good. Can I get out now?

me: No

him: why not?

me: because.

him: I'm hungry. I'm so hungry I'm going to die! I need food. You want me to die, don't you. I can hear my tummy. That means I'll probably die if you don't feed me.

me: fine, I'll bring you some cheese but stay here.

him, after cheese: I'm being really good now. Can I get out? pretty please?

me: no.

and so it went, round and round, for a good solid hour and a half. Then at some point we both fell asleep.

.......................

I went to visit a friend ealier today. She's going through some really hard times. On her fridge there is a small white board and she wrote "Always be positive No Matter What!" And she is very positive- smiling and making the best of life. A person in her situation may not be inclined to be positive but if she can be positive, I can probably do a better job of it.

Olivia, Emma and Evan

Olivia and her good friend Emma wore matching shirts on the first day of school. Evan had to be in the picture too.

Olivia's 9th Birthday

Olivia turned 9 yesterday.  She had her "friends" party last week and her family party last night. My brother Stan happened to be visiting the day of her friends party. He's in the picture when she's blowing out her candles.

First day of school

It's finally here, the long-awaited first day of school. They've all been up since 5:30.  I still can't believe I'm sending Evan off to school. He looks so grown up in his new school clothes.

Recognize these children?

The kite store

We are once again at the beloved kite store on Pearl street. Its a fantasyland for the kids and they can spend hours (or could if I let them) looking at all the toys.
