Happy Halloween!

I did the top two paintings this past month. The bottom one I did last year. But I thought I'd throw it on anyway. It feels good to be painting again. Hard to find time, only late at night and early in the morning. I'm a pretty amatuer landscape painter but I feel like I improve with each painting and I have this "self-talk" going on in my head and I'm always seeing things I could do better.

Dear Taylor

Dear Taylor,
Thanks for being amazing. I don't know how you do it. Sometimes I let stress get the better of me. And I have the easy job. I always know I can count on you to be happy and upbeat, to come home and have a smile and laugh for the kids. No matter what your day at work holds, you can get down on the floor and wrestle with the kids and make them all laugh.
I was driving home from Evan's preschool today, going to get his costume which I forgot, feeling like a bad mom for a number of reasons and just depressed in general. I was thinking how I wished I had a close friend at that very moment that I could tell everything to, someone that would lift me up and tell me everything would be OK. Right then you called. I didn't say how I was feeling and we just made some small talk but at the end of our conversation, you said, "Everything's going to be okay, hon." And as long as I have you, you're right. I love you.

I did this yesterday. It took me way too much time but mostly because I didn't have my pictures well organized. I'm working on it. There has to be an easier way to organize them all..it would help if my nexus worked right to upload them to picassa. Anyway, I thought it turned out kind of cute.

I went to pick up Evan from school today. Mrs. Sue was not happy. All the parents were lined up and of course I happened to be at the front of the line so everyone could hear our little conversation. It went like this.
Mrs. Sue: "Mrs. Workman, we need to have a word."
Me: Uh-oh
Mrs. Sue: "We're having a bit of a problem with Evan."
Me: "Really?" shocked, of course.
Mrs. Sue: "Yes, he was asked to leave circle time twice today." Mrs. Sue raises her eyebrows here for effect. Which prompts me to ask the inevitable, what for.
Mrs. Sue: "He was making inappropriate noises. Again. And he wouldn't stop. And what's more, he laughs about it."
Me: "I see.. like, what kind of noises?" This was not a good question, I quickly realize. Mrs. Sue raises her eyebrows again, smiling an un-smile. It dawns on me that she doesn't want to replicate the noises. "Oh, right, uh, we'll definatly have a talk about this."
Mrs. Sue: "I hope so."
Evan's project this weekend: writing a letter of apology to Mrs. Sue, which he will give her on Monday.

We're at the rec center after swim lessons. He likes to play for a good hour after class.  I love my phone! I've had it for 8 months and don't know how I ever got along without it. Waiting isn't a big deal anymore, as long as I don't have someplace to be.

No more Wii

I'm really trying to spend time with my kids tonight suggesting everything from baking cinnamon rolls to making refrigerator magnets but apparently the wii had more appeal than I do. So once again, the Wii wins, sadly. I set the rules- only on Friday after school and Saturday. Taylor's gone tonight getting spiritual enlightenment here. Maybe Ill curl up with a good book.

Smells like fall

After baking 2 cheese pizzas, 2 loaves of zucchini bread, pumpkin seeds and pumkpin bread, Olivia walked in the kitchen and said, "It smells good mom. It smells like Fall." Our trip to the pumpkin patch and all this baking makes it officially Fall.
